New England Firearms Safety Training was built around a simple belief:
People learn firearms best in an environment where they feel safe, respected, comfortable asking questions, and never intimidated by what they don't already know.
Located in Salem, New Hampshire, we provide professional firearms education for students throughout New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and the surrounding New England region.
While we offer training for many different experience levels, we have developed a particular reputation for working with new and first-time shooters.
You don't need to know anything about firearms before walking through our door.
That's why we're here.
Walking into a firearms class for the first time can be intimidating.
We don't think the instructor should add to it.
Our classroom is designed to be a place where questions are encouraged, students aren't embarrassed by what they don't know, and nobody is expected to keep pace with someone who has been shooting for years.
We teach the student in front of us, not simply the curriculum in front of the instructor.
That means taking the time to explain the why, demonstrate the how, and give students an opportunity to develop skills through experience.
Small classes. Experienced instructors. Individual attention.
We believe there is an important difference between being exposed to information and actually learning how to use it.
That's why our approach emphasizes three stages:
Understand firearms safety, operation, handling, responsibilities, and the fundamentals behind what you're doing.
Turn knowledge into ability through hands-on exercises and, when appropriate, simulator-based training.
Apply what you've learned through professionally supervised live-fire training included in many of our courses.
We don't want students simply remembering what an instructor said.
We want them understanding what they're doing.
Some students come to us because they need a certificate.
We understand that.
But fulfilling a certification requirement and providing meaningful firearms education are not necessarily the same thing.
When you train with New England Firearms Safety Training, our objective isn't to move you through a class as quickly as possible.
Our objective is for you to leave safer, more knowledgeable, more capable, and more confident than when you arrived.
A certificate documents that you completed training.
Confidence comes from actually learning.
Firearms training carries an enormous responsibility.
Safety isn't a chapter we teach at the beginning of class and then move beyond. It is incorporated into everything we do—from the classroom and hands-on exercises to simulator training and the live-fire range.
Students learn not only the rules of firearm safety, but how those principles apply to handling, storage, transportation, shooting, and responsible firearm ownership.
We take safety seriously.
We simply don't believe seriousness requires intimidation.
Good instructors never stop learning.
Our instructors maintain professional certifications and pursue continuing education through nationally recognized firearms, safety, self-defense, range-safety, less-lethal, and instructor-development programs.
But certifications alone don't make someone a good teacher.
Knowledge must be accompanied by the ability—and willingness—to communicate it effectively to another person.
Our instructors continue training because our students deserve instructors who continue developing too.
Firearms education is a journey.
A student may begin with basic firearms safety or a Massachusetts LTC course and later decide to explore handgun marksmanship, rifles, shotguns, AR-platform firearms, defensive skills, home defense, less-lethal options, or other areas of shooting and personal safety.
We provide opportunities to continue learning as your interests, abilities, and confidence develop.
There is no expectation that everyone follows the same path.
Your goals determine where your training goes next.
We don't measure success by how many students we can move through a classroom.
We measure it one student at a time.
Did you understand what you learned?
Did you become more comfortable handling a firearm?
Did you get answers to your questions?
Can you apply what you were taught safely?
Do you know what you should learn next?
And most importantly:
Do you leave more confident than when you walked in?
If the answer is yes, we've done our job.
You don't need experience.
You don't need to own a firearm.
And you don't need to pretend you already know what you're doing.
Come ready to learn.
We'll meet you where you are and help you take the next step.
